Environment & Renewable Energies

Since 2007 EKB has stored natural gas safely. But we are also concerned about the climate change issue and the role of the energy business therein. Therefore, we have decided to take smaller and larger steps to contribute to a rethinking, to a more careful use of resources and to the energy transition. A selection of our current activities is listed below:

• Hydrogen
  Continuous further development of the existing gas storage facility, so that it can be used in the long run for the storage of renewable energies, especially hydrogen.
  
  
• Photovoltaics
  Construction of our own photovoltaic system (planned completion by the end of 2021) for our own electricity supply, which will help us to save around 15t of CO2 per year.

• Energy audits
  Regular energy audits according to DIN EN 16247 to optimise energy efficiency and evaluate the current energy situation. Thus, we were able us to optimise processes and continuously reduce electricity consumption in recent years.

• Environmentally friendly materials
  Regular testing of the used environmentally hazardous substances for possible substitution by environmentally friendly alternatives (substitution test in accordance with the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances).
